BACKGROUND
I started studying art at an early age in Yakima, WA and continued studying with a focus on classical realism in oil (portrait, figure, and still life). Ironically, I was first exposed to classical realism and atelier style teaching at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing China ('88-'89) where I had private instruction in portraiture and joined group model sessions with other students.
I then had the good fortune of connecting with Juliette Aristides, an instructor at the Gage Academy in Seattle. Juliette provided me with a solid foundation and cemented my appreciation for this approach. In addition to Juliette's teaching, I have since enjoyed workshops and courses through at the Grand Central Academy in New York and Florence Academy of Art in Italy.
I currently live and paint on Vashon Island in Washington State.
EDUCATION
I was born in 1966 in Yakima, Washington and began my artistic training at age 10 in a special arts training pull-out program. At the University of Washington I continued my art training. In 1996 I began studying classical realism at Gage Academy with Juliette Aristides.
Gage Academy, Seattle WA 1996-2006 (1996-2002 studied regularly under Juliette Aristides & 2000, 2002, 2006 workshops with Steven Assael)
Grand Central Academy of Art, Fall 2006, workshop with Michael Grimaldi
Florence Academy of Art, Italy, Summer 2004
University of Washington, 1993-95, MS & 1984-1988, BA
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Chongqing China, 1988-89, classical portrait & figure training
